HOW TO CHOOSE DOWN PILLOWS

DOWN PILLOWS

Soft, Medium, Firm or Extra Firm?:

The 0:44 Video shows how our Soft, Medium and Firm down pillows respond to compression making it easier to choose which density is right for you and your sleep style.

Our Down Pillows are made from hand selected Hungarian goose down cluster. The feathers are separated during the sorting process so our Down Pillows contain few, if any, feathers ensuring no feathers to poke you while you sleep. All of our pillow shells are made from luxurious Long staple Egyptian cotton and stuffed with your choice of 600, 700 or our finest quality 800 fill power Hungarian goose down.

Down clusters, like those used to make our Snuggle Soft™ Hungarian goose down pillows, are round like the head of a dandelion. This round shape is what give them the resilience our luxury down pillows are known for.

Snuggle Soft™ or Natural Nights™

A) Snuggle Soft™ shell:

Our Snuggle Soft™ brand of luxury feather and down pillows are made using Long staple Egyptian cotton. These long luxurious fibers are woven into a 300 thread count down proof shell and then filled with our hand selected Hungarian goose down. Hypoallergenic like all our luxury down bedding every pillow we make is finished with a double stitch satin corded edge. Always use a pillow protector to keep your pillow soft and fresh.

B) Natural Nights™ shell:

Our Natural Nights™ brand of luxury feather and down pillows are made using the same Long staple Egyptian cotton as our Snuggle Soft™ brand of luxury feather and down pillows but designed to be more eco-friendly for those with skin sensitivities. The long luxurious unbleached Egyptian cotton fibers are soft and woven into a 312 thread count down proof shell and then filled with our hand selected Hungarian goose down. Natural Nights™ cotton shells are natural in color after all dyes, chemicals and fire retardants have been removed leaving a soft luxurious cotton shell. Natural Nights™ shells will take a little longer to "break-in". Always use a pillow protector to keep your pillow soft and fresh.

Pick Your Perfect Pillow:

How you sleep determines your perfect pillow. In fact, you could say that how you sleep determines the personality of the pillow you should choose. The pillow you sleep on cradles your head through the night. It holds your head in the same relation to your shoulders and spine as if you were standing with perfect posture.

So ask yourself, "how do I sleep?"

Stomach Sleeper Pillows: Soft Pillows

A soft pillow for a stomach sleeper provides both support for your head while you sleep but also helps maintain a comfortable spine angle. Something else to consider is the firmness of your bed. The softer your bed the softer your pillow should be. If you sleep on a softer bed, perhaps a pillow top; quilted or have one of our made-to-order feather beds on top of your bed this implies that you will 'sink' or sleep lower in your bed in which case you may look for a soft or medium pillow to maintain your spine angle while you sleep.

Back Sleeper Pillows: Medium Pillows

Again the idea of a pillow is to maintain you spine angle while you sleep so that your neck and back muscles can relax so back sleepers may need to consider other issues like where you rest your head while it's on the pillow. For example do you sleep with more of the pillow down your back so that you have more support directly under your neck and spine while sleeping OR is your pillow closer to the top of your head pushing your chin into your chest more? Go with a medium firmness if you keep the pillow more directly under your neck and at the base of your spine and a softer pillow if keep the pillow closer to the top of your head so your chin isn't touching your chest. Don't forget about the firmness of your bed and how it's firmness may impact your spine and neck while you sleep on your medium firmness pillow.

Side Sleeper Pillows: Firm Pillows AND Medium Pillows

Side sleepers have some interesting challenges when choosing a pillow. Things to consider are how soft or firm is your bed? How narrow or broad are your shoulders? The firmer your bed the firmer your pillow. The broader your shoulders the firmer the pillow. Remember that the role of a pillow is to keep your spine angle 'straight' while you sleep AS IF you where standing upright with perfect posture. The role of your pillow for side sleepers is to fill the area between the crown of your shoulder, your outer shoulder, and your ear. That area changes depending on your shoulder width and the firmness of you bed.

HUNGARIAN GOOSE DOWN:

The Finest Fill:

A goose down filled pillow is more resilient and comes in varying levels of quality. It's more resilient because the goose down clusters will naturally want to return to their normal fluffy selves after you have slept on them. While quality is determined by the fill power (600, 700, 800) of the goose down. The higher the fill power (600, 700, 800) the better the quality of the goose down. But quality in this case means longevity. It's a little counterintuitive but here's the way it works. The higher the fill power, the larger the down cluster, a larger down cluster is more resilient and will last longer. Very important given the 'beating' a pillow takes. So a higher fill power means a larger cluster and will more durable and of finer quality. See a little counterintuitive but worth understanding when a standard SnuggleSoft 800 fill power goose down pillow starts at $168.
